Pump jack, progressive cavity pump, electrical submersible pump, and jet pump are widely used for petroleum production. In this paper, working principles and characteristics of the pumps are summarized. Among them, the electrical submersible pump is suitable for large mass flow rates. Pump impeller is one of the most important elements in centrifugal pump and it has been designed through the empirical method. Empirically designed elements are numerically analyzed using CFD method. From the numerical results, pressure and velocity fields are investigated and thereby, the empirically designed elements are improved if necessary. An example of impeller design is presented in detail. Performances of major petroleum production pumps adopted at production fields are also presented.
원유 생산에 사용되는 펌프들은 펌프잭(pump jack), 모노펌프(PCP; progressive cavity pump), 수중모터펌프(ESP; electrical submersible pump), 분사펌프(jet pump) 등이 있다. 본 해설 논문에서는 각 펌프의 구동원리와 장단점을 조사하였다. 이들 펌프 중 고유량에 적합한 수중모터펌프의 핵심요소인 임펠러의 설계 사례를 보여주었다. 설계한 임펠러의 형상을 가지고 수치해석을 수행하여 임펠러 주위의 압력장, 속도장 등을 구하고 설계한 임펠러 형상의 적합성을 검토하였다. 또한, 현재 주요 원유 생산 현장에서 사용되고 있는 원유 생산 펌프들의 사양을 조사하여 제시하였다.
