Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology is recognized as a key technology that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel combustion. Besides the large-scale demonstration, small-scale pilot projects such as the Frio, the Nagaoka, the Ketzin and the Otway were undergone. Among them, the Otway project in Australia injected and stored 65 kt CO2 into the depleted gas field in 2008. There were two-time experiments for measuring the residual CO2 saturation in the field. The Otway project successfully injected 15 kt CO2 into the aquifer in December 2015 and proceeds 2C stage which monitors CO2 plume stabilization. To accomplish domestic CCS demonstration, Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) is involved in Otway international collaboration. KIGAM began specific project in 2015 on the basis of data obtained from Otway 2C field through active participation. In this article, we introduce the improvement of seismic monitoring and reservoir modeling techniques in the international collaboration. Results will be exported into the historical matching technique which completes monitoring CO2 storage analysis.
