The unexpected demand for pipe ways occurs due to balanced national land development such as environment-friendly development or redevelopment and rapid increase of roads. Therefore, the related authorities perform overlapped pipe way constructions using enormous budget, which causes decrease of road life span, traffic problems, environmental problems and public grievance. Open cut construction technology has the inevitable weakness to solve these problems because it installs pipes by excavation an cover, which demands a solution under governmental control. A few companies in Korea are now performing construction using the technology by introducing trenchless construction facilities. But, applications to the real sites confront many difficulties because of the land condition in Korea with 70% of mountains land. Therefore, it is severely necessary to develop a koreanized advanced trenchless construction technology that is suitable for korean land conditions.
국토의 균형적인 개발, 친환경적인 도시개발 및 재개발, 도로의 급격한 증가 등으로 예상하기 어려운 관로 수요가 발생하고 있다. 이에 따라 각각의 관련기관은 매년 막대한 예산을 집행하여 중복적인 관로 공사를 시행함으로써 도로 수명 단축, 교통 장애, 환경문제 및 민원 발생 등을 야기하고 있다. 이것은 기존의 관로 공법은 도로를 절단 후 지반을 절토하여 관로를 매설하는 개착식 공법이 갖는 필연적인 문제로써 이에 대한 해결방안이 국가적 차원에서 요구되고 있다. 그 동안 국내에서는 일부 기관에서 외국의 비개착 장비 및 공법을 도입하여 시공하고 있으나, 국토의 70%가 산으로 이루어진 국내 지반 여건에 적합하지 않아 현장에 적용하는데 많은 어려움을 겪고 있다. 따라서 국내 지반 여건에 적합한 개량된 한국형 첨단 비개착 공법의 개발이 절실하다.
