In this study, the preparation of cerium carbonate from cerium hydroxide resulted from cerium-containing solution was investigated through consideration of each stage, such as conversion materials and removal of impurities. When cerium sodium sulfate was synthesised by addition of sodium sulfate in the solution containing cerium fluoride anion, 2.5 equivalent of aluminum sulfate was added into the solution and reacted at 50℃ and 2 hours in order to prohibit the formation of cerium fluoride. When cerium chloride solution was prepared from cerium hydroxide, 1.0 equivalent of hydrochloric acid was added, and 1.5 equivalent of hydroperoxide was added in order to reduce Ce4+(ceric) and Ce3+(cerous). It was proper to maintain pH of solution 3~4 for removal of iron by acidity control method. Cerium carbonate with cerium carbonate hydrate crystal structure was prepared at the following conditions : concentration of cerium chloride 90 g/l, reaction temperature 75℃ and concentration of ammonium carbonate 0.5 M. added in cerium chloride solution.
본 연구에서는 불탄산염 희토류 정광인 바스트나사이트(bastnasite)로부터 분리회수된 수산화세륨을 출발원료로 하여 탄산세륨 제조조건을 확립하고자 하였다. 불화세륨 음이온 함유 용액으로부터 황산나트륨 첨가에 의한 황산나트륨세륨화합물 제조 시, 황산알루미늄 2.5 당량, 반응온도 50℃ 그리고 반응시간 2시간에서 형성된 황산나트륨세륨 내에는 불화세륨이 존재하지 않았다. 수산화세륨으로부터 염화세륨 수용액 제조 시, 염산의 첨가량은 1.0 당량 그리고 4가 수산화세륨의 환원 시, 용액 pH 1에서 과산화수소를 약 1.5 당량 투입하면 4가 세륨의 완전 환원이 일어났다. 산도조절법에 의한 철성분 제거 시 용액의 pH는 3~4로 유지하는 것이 적절하였다. 탄산세륨 제조시 염화세륨의 농도 90 g/l, 반응온도 75℃ 이하, 그리고 탄산암모늄 수용액 농도 0.5 M에서 결정수를 함유한 탄산세륨 결정을 제조할 수 있었다.
