The possibility of the existence of hydrocarbon in continental shelf of Korea has been raised for 40 years and a good quality of gas was discovered in Gorae V structure, in Block 6-1, Korea Offshore in July, 1998. Through the evaluation drillings and feasibility study, the reserve of Gorae V structure was confirmed to be commercially developed. Since then, KNOC started the gas field development and named Gorae V structure to Donghae-1 gas field for an official use. From the seismic data acquisition to the fabrication and installation of the production facilities, every work was conducted by our technical staff in Korea. The first gas was delivered to Ulsan and Gyeongsangnam-do on July 11, 2004. This report is to represent the development history of the Donghae-1 gas field, and it is believed that this will be a good reference for the future similar projects.
