Abstract
The recent high prices of mineral and oil resources have a deep influence on Korean economy and threaten energy security of Korea. As uranium occupies 42% of Korea’s total power production and Korea imports the whole demand for uranium from overseas, uranium is an important strategic mineral to secure stable supply and develop overseas uranium mines. This article is to represent general characteristics of Uranium deposits, uranium mining methods, and world reserves and production status and introduce the ISL (in situ leaching) method taking the 16% of world uranium production. In addition, this article provide brief information on the status of uranium mine development of major producers such as Australia, Canada, Kazakhstan and the status of nuclear energy power of major countries, including Korea, holding atomic energy power stations.
최근에 주요 자원의 가격 상승추세 지속과 국제유가의 고공행진으로 에너지안보의 중요성이 크게 부각되고 있다. 우라늄은 전력생산의 42%를 차지하고 있고, 전량 수입에 의존하고 있어 안정적 공급을 확보하고 적극적인 해외광산개발이 필요한 중요한 전략광물이다. 이번 기고문에서는 우라늄 광상의 일반적인 부존특성 및 광상개발방법, 매장량 현황, 생산현황 등에 대해 살펴보고, 세계 우라늄 생산량의 16%를 점유하고 있는 원지용해침출채광법에 대해 자세히 소개하였다. 주요 생산국인 호주, 캐나다, 카자흐스탄의 우라늄 광산 개발현황과 주요 원자력발전국인 미국, 일본, 한국, 러시아, 인도, 중국의 발전현황에 대해 간략히 살펴보았다.
