This paper presents a GIS-based software for evaluating subsidence susceptibility in abandoned mineareas. The software is designed to combine frequency ratio model, fuzzy membership functions, analytic hierarchyprocess to prioritize areas vulnerable to subsidence incorporating 15 contributing factors which can be extractedfrom Mine GIS of Mine Reclamation Corporation. ArcObject programming using Visual Basic.NET was performedto implement the software as an extension toolbar in ArcMap program. It enables to provide 2D or 3D visualizationof final resultant data obtained from four step processes (factor selection, weighting, correlation analysis, mappingoption). Application of the software to the abandoned coal mine areas in Gangwon-do revealed that the softwarecan analyze ground stability considering drift, topography, geology and hydrological conditions. Consequently,it gave a reasonable subsidence susceptibility map by spatially comparing with subsidence inventory map. Thedeveloped software can be effectively utilized to support subsidence prediction and management of abandonedmine areas.
