The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) established under the Kyoto Protocol is one of the cooperative mechanisms to assist GHG (Green House Gas) reduction and promote environmentally friendly investment into developing countries from industrialized country governments and businesses. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the CDM methodologies in mining sector and a way to use CDM in the country and overseas. Then CCS (Carbon capture and storage) project will be introduced which is a hot issue where it can be considered as CDM at the Conference of the Parties to the Climate Change Convention.
교토의정서에 명시된 청정개발체제(CDM)은 선진국 정부 및 기업들이 개도국에 투자함으로서 온실가스 저감 및 환경친화적 투자를 촉진하는 협력 메커니즘의 하나이다. 본 논문에서는 CDM 사업영역 중 채광분야(mining sector)에서 우선, 승인된 CDM 방법론과 국내 산업동향 및 활용방안을 살펴보고 다음으로 기후변화당사국회의에서 CDM 사업으로 인정하는 문제에 대해 논의중인 CCS 사업에 대해 소개하고자 한다.
