Analysis of Physical Characteristics of Waste Plastics Generated from Used Small Household Appliances 폐소형가전으로부터 발생하는 폐플라스틱의 물리적 특성분석

Abstract

Small household appliances such as electric fans, vacuum cleaners, etc. are diverse and complex due to the materials and components, therefore, recycling of these appliances is extremely challenging. In the present study, physical characteristics of used small household appliances are analyzed to investigate their plastic concentrations and ratio of black plastics. The highest plastic concentration in used small appliances is up to 68%(i.e. humidifier). The average ratio of black plastics in the used small appliances is over 35% and black plastics mainly consist of ABS, PS and PP. In addition, plastic mixture samples obtained from the private recycling companies were also analyzed to improve the recovery of plastics by resin type. The plastic mixture samples(i.e. sink and float products) are obtained from the wet-type gravity separation process and then analyzed their physical characteristics. The new separation technology will be developed to promote the recycling of black plastics in the near future.

폐소형가전은 다양한 플라스틱 재질과 구성 물질로 인해 해체 및 선별시 특정 기술만의 적용은 제한적이다. 본 연구에서는 폐소형가전의 수작업 해체 후 물리적 특성분석과 민간재활용 업체의 선별 재활용 공정의 비교를 통해, 함유된 플라스틱의 물리적 특성을 분석하였다. 수작업 해체 후 회수된 플라스틱의 재질 및 색상(검정색/유색)을 분석한 결과 전체 품목 중 검정색 플라스틱의 평균 함량은 약 35% 이상이며 주로 ABS, PS 그리고 PP 재질로 구성되어 있다. 민간재활용업체로부터 확보한 시료에 대한 비중선별 실험결과를 색상 선별하여 중량물 중 검정색 비율은 PS와 ABS가 각각 25.03%, 40.31%로 분석되었으며, 경량물 PP의 경우 12.45%로 확인되었다. 수작업 해체 시 재질 및 색상 선별이 가능하나 많은 작업시간과 인력이 소요된다. 재활용 공정의 경우 비중선별을 통해 PP 재질의 회수는 용이하나 PS와 ABS 재질 분리는 한계가 있어 향후 폐소형가전 검정색 플라스틱의 효율적인 재활용 공정을 개발하여 현장적용이 가능한 선별기술의 개발이 이루어져야 할 것이다.
