Abstract
Material flow analysis (MFA) quantifies the linkage of environmental problems and human activities. And MFA is a proxy for contribution to the development of indicators for measuring changes in resources consumption and production patterns. MFA helps to identify waste of natural resources and other materials in the economy which would otherwise go unnoticed in conventional economic monitoring systems. The assessment of materials and energy related to environmental impacts-based systems analysis, derivation of indicators for sustainability, determination of materials intensity and material input per service and total material requirements are performed by MFA. Therefore MFA can be employed to analyze resource consumption and materials throughout of economies, to develop scenarios for sustainable resource management, and to plan systems for sustainable materials supply and waste management.
물질흐름분석은 환경문제와 인간활동 간의 연관성을 정량화하는 것이다. 그리고 물질흐름분석은 자원소비 및 생산패턴에서의 물질(자원) 변화를 측정하기 위한 지표의 개발에 크게 기여하고 있으며, 천연자원의 낭비나 기존의 경제 모니터링 체계에서 인지되지 않는 여타 물질 규모 등을 판단하는데 도움이 된다. 물질흐름분석에서는 시스템분석, 지속가능성 지수 도출, 물질(자원)이용지수 및 물질집약도 산정, 총 물질요구량, 직접물질투입 규모 등에 기초한 환경적 영향에 관련된 물질 및 에너지의 평가 등이 수행된다. 그리고 물질흐름분석은 자원소비 및 경제활동에서의 물질을 분석하고, 지속가능한 자원 및 폐기물관리를 위한 시나리오를 개발하며, 지속가능한 물질과 에너지 공급 및 폐기물관리를 위한 시스템 설계에 적용할 수 있다.
