The object of this study is to investigate the geochemistry for Fe scale formed in groundwater well at Chosun University. The composition of Fe scale consist mainly of Fe2O3 and SiO2. The content of Fe2O3 ranges from 8.77 wt.% to 79.1 wt.% and SiO2 content ranges from 4.43 wt.% to 61.1 wt.%. Heavy metal elements such as Cr (max. 94,400 mg/kg), Ni (max. 7,250 mg/kg), Zn (max. 10,000 mg/kg), Mo (max. 2,930 mg/kg) Cu (max. 1,410 mg/kg) and Co (max. 87 mg/kg) were observed to be rich in those scales. When placed in order of high content it accounts for, Cr>Ni>Zn>Mo>Cu>Co is the result. As the content of Cr increases in Fe scale, so do the elements of Mo, Ni, Cu, and Co. The content of SiO2, Al2O3, CaO, Na2O and TiO2 decrease as Fe2O3 increase, whereas the content of Cr, Ni, Mo and Cu increase in Fe scales. Amorphous iron hydrate, goethite, quartz, kaolinite and albite were identified in Fe scales by x-ray powder diffraction. The height of diagnostic peaks for 4.18Å(hkl=100), 2.69Å(hkl=130) and 2.44Å(hkl=111) in goethite was increased with the depth. In the IR analysis, the OH-stretching vibration, the -OH bending vibration and the δ-OH-bending vibration of diagnostic absorption bands for goethite were only found in the surface of Fe scale at the submersible-pumps. The iron-oxidizing bacteria, helically stalked Gallionella and sheathed Leptothrix species were identified in Fe scale by the SEM and EDS analysis. The micro-spherical shape and the framboid structure of iron hydroxide were precipitated in twisted stalk Gallionella cell surface. The numerous siderite crystals were observed from the cross section of the biofilms that were composed of Fe oxides.
중금속원소인 Cr(최대 94,400 mg/kg), Ni(최대 7,250 mg/kg), Zn(최대 10,000 mg/kg), Mo(최대 2,930 mg/kg) Cu(최대 1,410 mg/kg) 및 Co(최대 87 mg/kg)등이 매우 높은 함량으로 나타났으며 이들 원소의 부화 순서는 Cr>Ni>Zn>Mo>Cu>Co이다.
