Drilling campaign for the exploratory well(UK-1) was performed for 260 days from July 29, 2010 on the North Pre-Caspian basin in South Karpovksy block, northwestern part of Kazakhstan. This well is not only the first exploratory well ever operated by KNOC in South Karpovsky block but the first well drilled through salt formation including abnormal high pressure zone. This project is meaningful in that prospective reservoir formation data and technical data was obtained as a result of reaching to target depth through long salt formation, which is useful for increasing drilling efficiency forward in this kind of drilling environment. This study aims to suggest considerations for improvements in drilling performance of future operations through technical review of salt drilling, well control and remedial job with coiled tubing.
