It has been attempted to select the most effective tamping material on rock blasting and apply to blasting practice of mines.From the investigation of tamping properties of sand, clay and water by the Lead Block Model Test, the following results are obtained:1) The pressure which is added to tamping material is not able to rise the blasting efficiency. In case of using sands screened by particle size as tamping material, it has shown that the blasting efficiency is decreased apparently in most particle sizes for increasing pressure to tamping material.2) In case of using tamping material consisting of solid particles such as sands, blasting efficiency increases as the particle size decreases.3) In case of using clay as taping material, the blasting efficiency increases gradually with the water content of clay.4) The inherent properties of water suggest that it might possess particular advantages as tamping material in rock blasting.
