Abstract
Northeast British Columbia calls for attention that was once applied to Alberta’s oil and gas for its enormous resource potential as much as 660 Tcf. Northeast British Columbia shares with petroliferous West Canada Sedimentary Basin in orogeny, basin formation and development, depositional system and history, stratigraphy, petroleum system and play characteristics. The Foothills region of the Rocky Mountain belt have great potential finding giant gas pools whose structures and fractures developed under the direct influence of Cordilleran orogenies. The foredeep region that constitutes Deep Basin is a huge habitat of basin-centered gases. Northeast British Columbia\'s ultimate potential for conventional gas is assessed to be initial discovered marketable gas reserve 26.4 Tcf, cumulative production as of 31 December, 2003 17.2 Tcf, remaining discovered marketable reserve 9.2 Tcf, and undiscovered marketable gas potential 25.5 Tcf. The current estimates of unconventional gas resources are tight gas 300 Tcf, shale gas 250 Tcf, and coalbed gas 60 Tcf.
