Abstract

Limestone is the largest natural mineral resources in Korea and has been used as the major basematerials of cement and other limestone industries, the market share of which covers more than 70% of domesticmineral industries. However, the competitiveness of domestic limestone industries is weakening due to lack ofhigh-grade limestone followed by lowering the grade of crude material, increasing market share of high-valuelimestone product by multinational corporations, and poor investment to domestic limestone research. In the presentarticle, to help the development and revitalization of the domestic limestone industries, current state of limestoneindustry was analyzed in view of the state of governmental R&D projects, publishing of research papers andpatent applications concerned with limestone in Korea.

석회석은 우리나라 최대의 천연자원으로써 국내 광업의 70% 이상을 차지하고 있는 중심 산업의 원료이다. 그러나 최근 고품위 원광석의 고갈로 인한 원광 품위 저하, 다국적 기업의 고부가가치 석회석 제품 시장점유, 소극적인 기술개발 등으로 인해 점차 경쟁력이 약해지고 있다. 이 글에서는 현재 우리나라 석회석 산업의주요 현황과 석회석과 관련된 국가연구개발사업, 연구 논문 발표 및 특허 출원 현황 등을 분석하여 자료를 제시함으로써 향후 국내 석회석 연관 산업의 발전 및 활성화에 도움이 되고자 하였다.
