Information
We have examined the potential of Mongolian Baganuur coal for clean coal technology by characterizing its chemical, petrographic, thermal and mineralogical properties. Average vitrinite reflectance was 0.345 which corresponds to the reflectance for lignite. Ulminite and phlobaphinite were observed which exist only in lignite. The content of mineral matters calculated by Paar formula was 12.06%. Mineral particles were less than several ㎛ in size and most common minerals were quartz and clay minerals along with pyroxene, hematite, sylvite, native gold and olivine. Chemical demineralization rather than physical separation would be a preferred method due to fine disseminated mineral particles.
