Recently Mo isotopic fractionation and geochemical and microbiological reactions, which plays a crucial role in paleoenvironment reconstruction and microbial utilization in N2 fixation on Earth, act as key research themes. In the present review, the current research trend such as Mo isotopes, the role of Mo in biological evolution processes, and Mo as a terminal electron acceptor was examined as well as industrial, environmental, and biological significance of Mo. Though a great deal of literature exists concerning the interactions between microorganisms and inorganic elements such as Fe, Mn, As, Cr, U, and Sb, the microbial effects on geochemical behavior of Mo remain poorly understood. Thus weintended to summarize information on Mo and to bring interest in Mo studies to researchers and practitioners in Korea through this review.
